Amanda and Bob Paquette at a remote pond 23 mile off the tar road. MWA has all the equipment needed for you and your family to enjoy some remote locations Maine has to offer. We will supply tents, cots, sleeping pads, all cooking supplies including the meals on a pre approved menu. We set up a screen house and also a sun shelter depending on the weather. We have several kayaks and canoes for your enjoyment. If you have never been in one, then this is the place to try it out for there is nobody around to watch! We will instruct you on proper entry and egress (Exit), along with some basic paddling techniques. Once your comfortable, you may take a few hours and paddle around the shores of some remote lakes we stay at where you may encounter a host of wildlife that is in the area. There are several places to choose from depending on your level of adventure and type of activities you want to enjoy. One of our favorite places is a remote pond 23 miles in from the paved road. On the drive in you may encounter moose, deer, eagles, beavers, and even an occasional bear. (Not to worry.....these bear are hunted and WILL NOT hang around for a free lunch) A lot of the campgrounds may have nuisance bears that come in at night and steal food or roam around the camp sites. Not that this won't happen here, but I have been camping at these places for 10 years and have never seen a bear near our sites. I believe that these wild bears are still very much afraid of humans. Because we are guests in their home, we still take precautions and try to keep a clean camp site. At some of the campsites we go onto land that is owned by North Maine Woods who charges a camping fee and a road use fee. We will get the costs prior to departure. For the hiker, there are miles and miles of unused dirt roads that will take you to places that don't get visited very often. If you want a picturesque hike, we can take you for a drive to the trail head of gulf hagus. This is a 10 mile loop through some awesome terrain, some call it the grand canyon of the east. Bring your camera for this one! Beware....you must wade through a stream to get there! There are also side trails that lead back to the trail head so you don't need to do the whole loop. If you prefer your own camper or pop-up, we have places available that are excellent! These sites are positioned at least 1/2 mile apart so you are truly alone at your site. Most of the sites I like have a lake right at your door step with a maximum of 2 to 3 sites w/ access to the lake. For the real adventure seeker, we offer a trip to an island located on a cold water lake where we may camp and fish. This island has views of Mt Katadin to the north. The island is a 2 mile boat ride through untouched wilderness that allows the viewing of moose, deer, eagles, loons, mergansers, ducks and beavers in their natural settings. This spot has public access so it is first come first serve. There are other places to camp other than the island, so if it is taken, it won't be a big deal. The salmon, lake trout and rock bass fishing is incredible! If you catch the season right, the pickerel fishing in the river is second to none. These are truly remote camping trips that most people will never experience. And of coarse, well behaved pets are always welcomed. The nice this about being so remote is that your animals do not need to be tied up, unless you prefer it. We Offer
